Personal Reflection on Topic of Inquiry(posted January 27 -- Peer Response January 29)
Politics in today's world are so pigeon holed in to only certain areas that the focus has shifted from what it should be focused on. I believe that gay marriage is one of those topics. Marriage is an institution that was created by the church to form together a man and a woman. Then it was adopted by the state in order to tax it. I do not see why political parties pigeon hole their parties to the point that people only look for that certain quality while voting for the the future leader of their generation.
When looking for the future leader I do not want to look at the ideas of religion or social topics. These so called "politics" are not what this country was founded for. I do not believe that people should base their campaigns or lifestyle around things like this. Gay marriage is a subject that everyone claims should be an issue for politicians to straighten out or defend. There are more important things that should be focused on.
I hope to take this topic farther, and this was not meant to offend anyone. How do we keep politics from becoming based off of social topics and focus of things that need to be covered?
This is a very interesting topic. I haven't really heard anyone have an opinion like this before. I would recommend you pay more attention to grammar. You have some grammar mistakes. Social Not Political
What is the use of electing a president or any type of political leader to run our nation if they only worry about how to get re-elected? Being a politician now is not the same as what it used to be; now they seem to think more about the good of themselves instead of the good of the country. The are elected to be a voice for the people when in reality they only voice opinions that would look good to the whole general public. Social issues like gay marriage, and abortion are things that politicians focus too much on which takes away from things our country really should focus on. Politics now a days can be defined by the definition of propaganda, the want for re-election, and social issues.

When election time rolls around in November the televisions, magazines, and newspapers all end up being filled the “ifs” and “buts” of what happens if you vote for a certain candidate. The advertisements fill up TV and radio commercials, saying why one guy is more fit for the job. Most of the promises made end up never becoming law or even being considered. What is the point? No one wants to make anyone mad. A politician finds ways of wording things so that everyone can stay on their side. Staying on people's good side is the only way that someone can keep a job. I see no point in people pushing their views to get into office when they just disregard them to keep their jobs. There is a giant problem with all of this happening. Gay marriage and abortion are just two of many social issues that block American lawmakers from doing their job and pigeon hole the views of political parties to support or go against certain issues. When I look at how the definition paper went, I honestly still could not tell you how to write a definition essay. I read all of the material handed to us in class, read all the examples, and I even looked at other people's on the site. None of this helped me. I read my paper and the whole time I had no idea whether it was a definition essay or an essay I would write for anything else. I want to become a better writer, I want to get better. But handing us FRQs in class, and not know if what we turned in was good or a piece of crap teaches me nothing. I found the addition of the vocab tests good, a good lexicon is always good for college entrance exams and any standardized test. But please, I beg you Mr. J. teach me how to write a good paper. You can talk in big words and tell us to use figurative language all day, but since almost half the class knows what you are saying, you might want to help us out. You are only as smart as the dumbest one in the class, and I am not saying that you should teach down, but you should teach them too.
Oh and when you decide to assign a rough draft to be written with a specific due date, it be cool if we know what the heck we are supposed to write about. Just saying though.
When you look at the a social issue and a political issue, there is a large majority of people that think they can be put into the same group. The problem is that neither of them should be looked at in the same way. Would you want to look at gay marriage and base a country around that one issue? Or would you want to look at the budget and the economy of the U.S. and throw a Saturday night party on it? These types of issues are things that should be looked at in different ways and separated in discussion. Political issues, and social issues are issues that should be looked at in different ways, social issues are things that take part in the in religious or personal grounds, whereas political issues take place with, but are not limited to, government and foreign policy.

Political issues, and social issues are issues that should be looked at in different ways, social issues are things that take part in the in religious or personal grounds, whereas political issues take place with, but are not limited to, government and foreign policy.
The separation of church and state is one that should be regarded while think about a social or a political issue. Gay marriage is an issue that is not accepted in christian faith. Church makes the issue social and not political. These issues should not be looked at the same way. They are two separate categories. Political issues are things that have a direct effect on the good or safety of the nation as a whole. Social issues do not have an effect on the nation.
Political issues are issues with the foreign policy, economy, and safety of the nation. The U.S. being a police force for the world is in issue that can be considered a social issue. People form different opinions about this issue and the issue itself takes place in grounds that relate directly to the U.S. When political parties look at the social issues that people talk about and try and work them into their platform of ideals they shift the focus that is put on that party. This is especially wrong with a bipartisanship, or a two-party system. Third parties focus on the social issues and third parties only effect on the election is to either split the vote or to have one of the big parties to endorse their issue. Third parties do not win elections, so there is no need to base a campaign or a political party on any social matter like that.
The separation of church and state, and the grounds of which an issue take place, both show how political and social issues should be looked at in different ways. Religion should have no influence upon the growth of the nation. In a bipartisanship, the focus should be strictly on the good of the country, and should not be focused on small social issues that are third party involved. In order to create a better tomorrow, the leaders of the nation must notice what they are doing now will effect the future. If Washington is focused on social issues then the safety and the success of this nation will decrease. Look for the future.

This assignment was not much of an easy task to fulfill. I do not think that writing an essay should be an easy thing but I do think it would be good to know how to write a comparison essay. You can give us all the examples of this stuff and I still do not know how to write a comparison essay. I am not confident with my writing at all. Right now I feel like I should be getting better and I do not feel any improvement. I want to get better. I really do. This wiki stuff does not seem to be helping me at all. Nor do I think it helps any of the students in the class.
Rough Draft Argument (posted April 6 -- Peer Response April 8)
Moderate is a term that all politicians these days know. Whether they are looking for reelections or do not want to piss people of in their district, politicians push a middle of the road bargain that makes them look as if they are not sure which side they want to choose. Political issues and social issues are different things. Comparing the two is like saying the polar bears would be a good name for a San Diego baseball team. Issues that are controlling the world these days are things like gay marriage, abortion laws, and social issues. In state legislators all of the country, politicians are worrying themselves about issues that should not be thought about in legislation. Gay marriage and abortion, are two prime examples of things that should not be on politicians radar, but have made their way from dinner table topics to court houses all over the country.
Marriage is defined by dictionary.com as, “the social institution under man and woman established their decision to live as husband and wife by legal commitments, religious ceremonies, etc.” Marriage is a religious institution, this country was based on the idea that there was a separation of church and state. It is the full reason why this country came what it has become today. People could argue that everyone should be treated equally, that everyone should have the right to marriage under our god given rights. The rights that were given to us include the freedom of religion, and if certain religious groups deny the right to marriage in their religious establishment that is the right of that religion. Saying that they must marry you in that establishment, whether you are straight or gay, would me like someone walking into a strangers home and telling them they must watch this TV show. Marriage is an institution adopted by the state in-order for them to have more opportunities to tax. While many say that getting married is a business transaction, it does not seem as if it should be one involved with the state.
Abortion is not an issue that should be regulated by the state to a point either. The use of abortions is a highly social matter that is seen to be the irresponsible way to get rid of a pregnancy. These is not a thing that politicians should think about the use
Politicians focus their jobs so much on the issues that are not issues that should be important, that they pigeonhole there views to the social views that should not be related to their jobs.

When politicians build platforms when running for political office they focus mainly on how to pick up votes. The platform grows from the small issues, to issues that are focused on by all candidates. Things like a stable economy, and national security are things are every candidate adds to their platform, and has they all have their own way of “saving” the world. Politicians should focus more on things that are needed for the the national well-being.
Politicians focus their jobs so much on the issues that are not issues that should be important, that they pigeonhole there views to the social views that should not be related to their jobs. This was a hard paper to write. I do not feel as if my writing has improved as of now. This is a hard class i understand, but these essays are hard. I try hard to write them and i never know how to make my essay successful. I feel as if that is something i need to work on and i am open for suggestions, and help. I just do not really think i am good at writing things like this. I really love writing creatively. I would gladly write you a fantasy story about a kid who daydreams in class and his only goal in life is to live up to the expectation of those dreams. I have nothing against English, i really would just like to understand this stuff better.

Rough Draft Comparison (postedFebruary 24 -- Peer Response February 26 )
Social vs. Politics

Reflection #2 (posted March 16 -- Peer Response March 25)

This issue is something that has brought too much attention to the eye of our politicians and caused them to make more laws restricting the normal day to day freedoms of American citizens. I disagree with the idea of abortion but the laws created by the government are restricting and should be limited. The policy makers should not be thinking of ways to hold America back, they should think of things that let America become the land of the free and the brave.
Politicians focus their jobs so much on the issues that are not issues that should be important, that they pigeonhole there views to the social views that should not be related to their jobs. Whether they are focusing on Abortion or gay marriage, their time could be better spent focusing on more detrimental things to America.

Reflection #3 (posted April 23)
This was a hard paper to write. I do not feel as if my writing has improved as of now. This is a hard class i understand, but these essays are hard. I try hard to write them and i never know how to make my essay successful. I feel as if that is something i need to work on and i am open for suggestions, and help. I just do not really think i am good at writing things like this. I really love writing creatively. I would gladly write you a fantasy story about a kid who daydreams in class and his only goal in life is to live up to the expectation of those dreams. I have nothing against English, i really would just like to understand this stuff better.
